  ABOUT US

The South East Victoria Equine Network (SEVEN) Inc. was formed in October 2002 in response to the findings of initiatives by South East Development, a Commonwealth funded organisation with a charter to facilitate economic development and employment opportunities in the south east region.

Between 1998 and 2001 regional horse industry surveys were undertaken in order to determine the size and scope of the equine industry in the South East region.

The results of these surveys led to South East Development and Local Government Councils recognising the major economic benefits of the equine industry to the region.

The survey results also clarified the fragmented nature of the equine industry that traditionally had resulted in sectors of the industry working in isolation and potentially missing out on the benefits of a collective lobbying capacity.

The need for an association, representing all the sectors of the equine industry, working collectively for the equine industry was therefore recognised. As a consequence of these findings, funding was gained, through the Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS), to employ a Project Manager to form the association and support the operations of SEVEN (Inc). Additional funding support was gained through local councils in the South East region. DOTARS funding ceased in 2004.
